Commercials and public service announcements
Commercials
and PSAs
Seven production teams serving
the Washington region
A shortlist for brand commercials and public service campaigns, organized around the kind of production support your message needs.

Give the message
a clear purpose
A commercial has very little time to make its point. A public service announcement may have an equally short window, but it also needs to give people a clear, useful reason to act. In both cases, the production should begin with the audience and the message, not a camera package.
For Washington DC and Northern Virginia teams, the choice may involve a full-service producer, a design-led studio or a filmmaker with a strong human-story approach. This shortlist includes those different models, plus a clearly labeled Baltimore-based regional option. Not every company specializes in both commercials and PSAs, so match the brief to the relevant evidence.

How we selected these companies
TriVision publishes this guide and is included. We checked official websites for commercial, advertising or PSA production and a Washington-area presence or service connection. The list is an editorial selection, not an independent ranking based on campaign results. Numbers organize the profiles. Suggested fits are our interpretation of published services; confirm current capabilities, staffing, pricing and availability in a proposal.

02 / The shortlist
Teams for your
next campaign
01 / Provider profileTriVision Studios
TriVision’s commercial and PSA service covers both brand advertising and public awareness messages. Its published portfolio includes live-action commercials, animated advertising and informational PSAs. The company is headquartered in Chantilly.
Consider TriVision when a campaign may need several production treatments under one brief. Ask how the creative would change across a television spot, a short social edit and a version with no sound. Bring the campaign’s approved message and delivery requirements so the proposal can account for all versions rather than pricing only the main film.
02 / Provider profileRaffertyWeiss Media
RaffertyWeiss’s PSA portfolio and service page describes creative development, filming, post-production and delivery-ready versions for television and digital channels. Its explainer service page identifies a Bethesda production base.
Consider it when the assignment centers on a public service message with several reviewers. Ask how the team will translate approved information into a concise script without overstating the evidence. Discuss who signs off on factual claims, on-screen resources and translations, and how those approvals will be documented before final versions are prepared.
03 / Provider profileWe Are Films, DC
We Are Films, DC lists corporate commercials, branded content, PSAs and social content among its services. Its site describes concept consulting, production, directing, cinematography and post-production.
Consider it when the creative depends on a distinctive live-action look. Ask to see a complete relevant spot and discuss how its visual choices would serve your own message. A compelling atmosphere should support the audience’s understanding, so ask how the concept will remain clear in shorter edits and smaller mobile formats.

04 / Provider profilePixeldust Studios
Pixeldust’s TV commercial service describes a combination of video production and animation, from concept and scripting through filming and finishing. Its contact page lists Washington DC headquarters alongside additional locations.
Consider it when the commercial depends on a product visualization, an illustrated world or a blend of filmed and animated elements. Ask which assets need to be built from scratch and which can be supplied by your team. Confirm how models, characters and motion designs can be reused across later campaign pieces before committing to the initial treatment.
05 / Provider profileMwendo
Washington-based Mwendo lists commercial advertising alongside documentary, narrative and nonprofit film. Its portfolio includes an awareness campaign and brand-oriented work, making it a relevant comparison for a message built around a person’s experience.
Consider it when a real participant or a human story should carry the spot. Ask how the team would decide between a scripted performance and an interview-led approach. Discuss participant preparation, sensitive material and the difference between a person’s actual experience and the broader claim the campaign wants to make. Keep that distinction clear throughout the edit.
06 / Provider profileNonagon Productions
Falls Church-based Nonagon includes TV commercials in its corporate video offering, alongside brand stories, recruitment and product-launch content. The page identifies its focus on DC-area and Northern Virginia organizations.
Consider it when a business wants a commercial to sit within a wider library of useful video. Ask whether a coordinated shoot could also produce a product demonstration or a customer-focused edit, with each deliverable separately defined. Avoid letting a long list of potential uses dilute the central commercial: one spot should still have a clear audience and a single main action.
07 / Provider profileEarly Light Media
Early Light Media presents commercial production, corporate videos, animation and documentary work, and explicitly identifies service in Baltimore, Washington DC and beyond. It is a regional comparison rather than a Northern Virginia studio claim.
Consider it when a commercial should draw on people-led storytelling. Ask the producer how a documentary-style concept would be planned tightly enough for an advertising deliverable. Confirm the location crew, travel assumptions and post-production arrangements in the quote. A regional production model can work well, but the logistics should be visible rather than left to inference.
03 / Build the campaign brief
Build the brief around the campaign
Before contacting producers, identify the intended viewer, the main message and the action you want them to take. Supply any approved claim language and explain what cannot change. That gives the creative team useful constraints without dictating every shot.
Specify distribution early. Broadcast television, streaming placements, social advertising and an organization’s own website may require different versions and usage arrangements. Production and media placement are separate scopes unless the proposal explicitly includes both. Preparing a PSA does not guarantee that a station or platform will carry it.
Ask for a delivery matrix listing every duration, aspect ratio, language and caption version. It should also show which versions share a script and which need a different opening or call to action. Approving that matrix before filming helps prevent a last-minute request that requires footage nobody captured.
Hiring checklist
- Define the audience, communication objective and final call to action.
- Request examples of the specific format: commercial, PSA or animated spot.
- Identify all factual, brand and subject-matter approvals.
- Confirm casting, locations, music and usage terms for each intended channel.
- List every cutdown, language, caption and aspect-ratio version.
- Ask who handles delivery specifications and technical quality checks.
- Separate production, distribution, media buying and reporting responsibilities.
- Agree on revisions, source files and future campaign adaptations.
Questions before you book
Frequently asked
questions
What makes a PSA different from a commercial?
A commercial generally promotes a brand, product or service. A PSA focuses on a public-interest message or action. Both require a clear audience, but the tone, approval process, distribution plan and supporting evidence may differ substantially.
Can one shoot produce television and social versions?
Often, provided those versions are planned in advance. A vertical composition may need different framing, and a short social edit may need a faster opening. Ask the producer to account for those choices in the shot list rather than treating them as automatic exports.
How should we compare prices?
Request quotes against the same brief and deliverables. Compare creative development, crew, talent, locations, animation, usage terms, revision rounds and final versions. A lower total may exclude work that another proposal includes, so resolve those differences before choosing.
